Steel Tank Repair
HJ3’s system of carbon fiber composites can be used to repair large steel tanks with severe corrosion resulting in through-holes and pitting. The carbon fiber is wrapped around the circumference of the steel tank to strengthen tank walls to their initial design strength. The carbon can also be used to strengthen tank support structures, tank roofs, and tank floors.
HJ3’s repair is truly turnkey and includes U.T. testing to determine the level of steel loss, engineering, stamped drawings, and installation. HJ3’s turnkey repair costs 30% to 50% less than welded steel repairs or total replacement of the steel tank and is completed in less than 2 months.
Corroded holes can render steel storage tanks useless.
The Repair Process
1) After abrasive blasting to the tank, all through-holes must be patched, then primed. |
2) Support structures that attach to the tank walls must be strengthened to create proper load transfer from the roof to the retrofitted tank walls. |
3) The carbon fiber shrouds are installed onto the tanks walls over the tie ins. Once secured, the tie ins are grouted to fill any voids that could catch rain or debris. |
|
4) The tank walls are wrapped with the specified number of layers of HJ3 carbon fiber to replace the strength lost by the corroded steel. |
5) After wrapping the tank and the support structures, the tank is filled to perform a hydro-static test. After passing all QC measures, the tank is painted and returned to service.
